Translating
This theme can be fully translated to your language. First of all you will need to set the language in the WordPress dashboard settings screen at Settings → General → Site Language.
Translating with Poedit #
Poedit is a translation software which can be downloaded for free from Poedit.
Download and install Poedit. Now, open recipes.pot from the theme's languages folder with Poedit.
- Click Create new translation from the bottom of Poedit screen.
- Select your language.
- Translate the theme line by line (you don't have to translate everything at once)
- Save the finished file in the theme's languages folder using the language code.
- Upload files (both .mo and .po) in /wp-content/themes/recipes/languages/ directory on your server.
When you save the file, you must name it according to your language code. As an example, for German the file name would be de_DE.po, for Spanish es_ES.po, and for Italian it_IT.po.
Translating with Loco Translate #
Loco Translate is a plugin which allows the translation made in the WordPress dashboard.
Install and activate the plugin, and go to Loco Translate. Now you will need to select which theme or plugin to translate. Obviously you are translating the Recipes theme. Even if you are using the Recipes Child theme (which you should), you must select the Recipes theme to be translated.
It may take a while for the next page to load. If you are just starting the translation choose New language. Choose your language from the dropdown, and click Start translating.
Now you can start translating the theme line by line. Click Save to save changes, and the translated strings appear on you site right away.
Translating URLs #
To finalize the translation you can translate the URL slugs used for recipe archive, single recipes, courses, cuisines etc at Settings → Permalinks.
